FAQ
Real questions. Straight answers.
Vehicle shopping comes with a lot of questions. Here are the ones I hear most about finding a vehicle, leasing, financing, trade-ins and referrals. If yours isn’t here, text me at 250-908-7004 and just ask.
Working with me
No. Trucks are a big part of what I do, but I also help people find SUVs, cars and used vehicles. Tell me what you need the vehicle to do and I’ll help you narrow down the right fit.
I’m Melissa Davis, the person behind Kootenay Truck Girl. I’m based in the East Kootenay and help people find trucks, SUVs, cars and used vehicles with straight answers and no pressure to rush.
Start with what you know. Tell me what you need the vehicle to do, what matters most, your budget range if you have one, and anything you want to avoid. I’ll help you narrow down the next step.
That’s completely fine. Tell me how you drive, what you need the vehicle to do and what matters most to you. You don’t need a make, model or trim picked out before you reach out.
During work hours (Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm), I usually reply within an hour. Text is the fastest way to reach me.
Referral Reward
If your referral results in a qualifying completed vehicle sale, you may be eligible for a referral reward of up to $700. I’ll confirm eligibility and the applicable reward with you directly.
No. You don’t have to be a past customer. If you know someone I can help, you can send them my way.
No. You can send as many people my way as you like. Each qualifying referral that results in a completed vehicle sale may be eligible for a reward of up to $700.
Use the referral form to send me your contact details and the referred person’s name and phone number. That’s enough to get us started, and I’ll take it from there.
If the referral qualifies and the vehicle purchase is completed, I’ll confirm the applicable reward and payment details with you directly.
I’ll confirm whether a referral qualifies and the applicable reward with you directly. A referral reward only applies when the referral meets the program requirements and results in a qualifying completed vehicle sale.
Leasing
It depends on the vehicle and the provider’s offer. I’ll help you compare monthly payments, upfront costs, fees and the total cost over the term, along with what happens at the end. A lower monthly payment doesn’t necessarily mean a lower overall cost.
Your lease sets an annual or total kilometre allowance and may charge for going over it. If your driving is fairly predictable, tell me roughly what you do in a year and I’ll help you compare that with the specific lease before you decide.
Depending on the agreement, you may be able to return the vehicle, buy it, or move into another lease. Before you sign, I’ll help you understand the buyout or residual amount, wear standards, extra-kilometre charges and any other end-of-term obligations.
Sometimes, but it can be costly. Early-termination rules and costs come from the provider and your specific agreement. If there’s a chance your situation could change, it’s worth understanding those terms before you sign.
Not necessarily. The amount due at signing varies by vehicle, offer and provider. I’ll help you compare what’s due up front with the monthly payment and the total obligation instead of focusing on one number.
If you like newer vehicles, drive fairly predictable kilometres and don’t normally keep a vehicle for many years, leasing may be worth a serious look. If you drive a lot, want to make major modifications or plan to keep the vehicle long term, buying may fit better. We can compare it around the way you actually drive.
A trade-in can still be part of the conversation, but how its value is applied depends on the provider and agreement. Tell me what you’re driving now and I’ll help you understand how it could fit into the lease.
Buying, Financing & Trade-Ins
Yes. I can help you understand the options and the questions to ask. Financing approval, rates and terms depend on the applicable lender or provider, and lease terms vary by vehicle and provider.
Yes. Tell me about your current vehicle and what you’re hoping to do next. I’ll help you understand the trade-in process, what to expect from an appraisal and how it fits into your next purchase.
I don’t keep a full inventory catalogue on this site. I share vehicles and Marketplace listings through my social channels, and if you tell me what you’re looking for I can help you explore what’s available.
There isn’t one best truck for everyone out here. I’ll start with how you actually drive — winter roads, commuting, family space, towing, work, recreation and budget — and help you narrow down what is actually worth looking at.
Service Area & Logistics
I’m based in Cranbrook in the East Kootenay. Most of the people I help are in the region, but I’ve also worked with customers coming in from elsewhere in BC and southern Alberta.
